Jenny Suhosen Ihmissilppuri-teos käy läpi henkilökohtaisia tunteita ja kokemuksia ja muuntaa ne kuviksi prosessissa, joka käyttää hyväkseen performanssia, installaatiota ja videota.

Titanik-gallerian näyttelyyn Suhonen rakentaa geometrisia muodostelmia aiemmin eri näyttelyissä ja tapahtumissa kerätyistä taakoista. Hän tutkii muotojen sisältämää symboliikkaa ja visuaalisuutta, mutta varsinkin miten taakat, ihmisyyden eri palat, istuvat muotojen asettamiin rajoihin – sekä symbolisiin että visuaalisiin. Taiteilija kysyy, voiko ihmisyyden asettaa muotoon? Suhonen käsittää taakat rakennus-palikoina. Hän sanoo, ettei olisi kuka on ilman taakkojaan – eikä olisi kukaan muukaan. Näin ajatellen taakat ovat muotoja, joista ihmisyys rakentuu.

Suhonen toteuttaa Ihmissilppuri-performanssia galleriatilassa sekä itsenäisinä performansseina että osallistavina ”Ihmissilppurin vastaanottoina”. Vastaanotolle vieraat voivat tuoda taakkansa niitä symboloivina esineinä, jotka Suhonen rikkoo saman tien osallistujan läsnäollessa. Vastaanotoilla kerätyt taakat jäävät osaksi näyttelyn aukioloaikoina rakentuvaa installaatiota. Näyttelyn ensimmäinen performanssi ”Kirjeet” toteutuu näyttelyn avajaisissa tiistaina 6.10. Samalla syntyy yksi näyttelyn installaatioista.

Jenny Suhonen (s.1978) on helsinkiläinen kuvataiteilija, joka työskentelee paitsi performanssin ja installaation, myös maalauksen keinoin. Suhonen käsittelee taiteessaan mm. ihmisyyttä purkaen sitä osiin. Hän haluaa pysäyttää ja antaa aikaa. Häntä kiinnostaa myös teoksen suhde tilaan ja niiden keskinäinen vuoropuhelu. Suhonen on opiskellut maalausta Vapaassa taidekoulussa ja arkkitehtuuria Oulun yliopistossa. Parhaillaan hän opiskelee Teatterikorkeakoulun Live Art and Performance Studies -maisteriohjelmassa.

The Humanshredder project by Jenny Suhonen goes through personal emotions and experiences, turning them into images through processes that utilize performance art, installations and videos.

To Titanik-gallery Suhonen builds geometrical formations by compiling material that she has collected in former exhibitions and events. She contemplates symbolism and visuality of different forms, but especially, how burdens – bits and pieces of humanity – sit inside the boundaries set by forms. The artist asks, can humanity be put inside a form? Suhonen understands burdens as building-blocks. She states that she wouldn’t be who she is without her burdens – nor would anyone else. Thought that way burdens are structural form that build bumanity.

Besides the installations Suhonen will execute 5 performances. First act will be happening in the opening, and will result as one of the main installations in the exhibition. Twice she will execute performances that she films to be part of the exhibition. Twice Suhonen performs Humanshredder’s appointment, where audience is welcome to bring their burdens to be broken to pieces.

Jenny Suhonen (b. 1978) is from Helsinki, and besides performance and installation she also works with painting. Her art deals with different forms and natures of humanity with the aim of taking it to pieces. Suhonen tries to give the audience an opportunity to face themselves. She wants to stop and give time. Suhonen has studied painting at the Free Art School in Helsinki and architecture in the University of Oulu. This year she is starting her Master’s degree in Live Art and Performance Studies at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki.
